Susie Shapira
PRODUCER & PHOTOGRAPHER
SUSIE SHAPIRA IS A FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER AND WRITER based in San Francisco whose work has taken her all over the world. She concentrates primarily on emergencies, disasters and under-reported humanitarian issues. She has completed photo documentation projects for non-profit organizations such as Doctor’s Without Borders, CARE International, Mercycorps and others. The topics she focuses on range from post-tsunami rebuilding in Sri Lanka to famine and HIV in Ethiopia, Niger and Uganda.
In New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina she spent four months shooting and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. She soon returned to the Gulf Coast to work on the documentary film “Children of New Orleans: Still Weathering the Storm".
Shapira is also working as a photographer and Disaster Assistance Employee for the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Her work is primarily in still photography, but she is expanding into documentary film projects and is always looking to expand and grow as a creative artist.
