Bob Pearson
PHOTOGRAPHER
BOB PEARSON IS A FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER AND EDITOR based in Wimberley, Texas. Pearson was born in Wausa, NE, graduated from Wausa High School, attended the University of Nebraska and graduated in 1979 with a BA in Journalism. During his college career, Pearson worked as a full-time photographer for the Daily Nebraskan, the UN-L college newspaper, and as a part-time photographer for the local daily newspaper, the Lincoln Journal-Star.
Pearson joined the Naples Star in Naples, FL in 1979 as a staff photographer, covering local news, sports and events in the Naples/Ft. Myers area. He moved to the Ft. Myers News-Press in 1982 as a staff photographer. He was promoted to Photo Chief at the News-Press in 1984, managing the staff of seven photographers.
In April, 1985, Pearson joined Agence France-Presse(AFP) as staff photographer. Based in Miami, he covered news and sports primarily in the US, Central and South America. His assignments included the Mexico City earthquake, the Nevada del Ruiz volcano eruption in Columbia, political campaigns in the US, and throughout South and Central America, World Cup and Copa America soccer, political turmoil in Haiti, several visits by Pope John Paul II to the region, Summer and Winter Olympics, the US invasion of Panama and the first Gulf War in Kuwait.
Pearson moved to Washington, DC in 1994 to become Chief Photographer for North America for AFP, spearheading coverage of news and sports in the US and Canada. He was responsible for coordinating coverage at the White House, several Olympic Games and Pan American games, and yearly events such as the MLB World Series, Masters Golf and NBA coverage, in addition to daily breaking news.
He was promoted to Director of Photography for North America in 2003, maintaining many of his Chief Photographer duties while taking on upper-management responsibilities for the region. Pearson resigned his position in 2006, and moved to Texas to start his own photography business. He now lives in the Hill Country of Texas with his wife, Cynthia Hunter.
