Anna Vigran

audio producer

Susie Shapira

ANNA VIGRAN BEGAN HER CAREER AT NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO IN Washington DC where she produced a wide variety of pieces for national broadcast – from breaking news to long format features. She helped bring listeners stories from many different places including New Orleans in the days following Hurricane Katrina, the chocolate plantations of Brazil, the home of a bonobo family in Iowa.

“Hearing someone’s story in his or her own voice is tremendously powerful and personal,” Vigran says. “Capturing the sounds of a place allows the listener to be keenly aware of the surrounding environment, to really imagine being there.” Vigran weaves these elements together, often within the structure of a scripted narrative, to give listeners a personal experience of another person’s life, a new place, or a new idea.

Vigran also does voice coaching to help reporters and narrators communicate their stories in an accessible way. She helps them craft a script with a natural reading cadence, and experiment with the reading to find a comfortable tone that best expresses the information. She aims for narration that is conversational and engaging.

A native Californian, Vigran earned degrees in biology and Spanish literature from the University of California at San Diego before moving to Washington DC. She is currently working as a freelance audio producer based out of Denver.
