NCI Supports the Democratic National Convention

(Denver, CO) October 25, 2008 - Colorado and The City of Denver basked in the national spotlight during the 2008 Democratic National Convention held here in August.  The event culminated with now President-elect Barack Obama accepting his party’s nomination in front of a capacity crowd at Denver’s INVESCO Field at Mile High football stadium.

The picture-perfect event seen by TV audiences throughout the world was the result of extensive planning at all levels of government.  The DNC was a federally designated National Special Security Event involving local, state and federal law enforcement and security partners working together to assure the highest levels of public safety.

Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper recognized early in the planning process that disseminating coordinated, timely and accurate information to local residents and businesses, the media and visitors had to be a top priority.

NCI president Jim Chesnutt was asked to participate in the planning for the Joint Information Center (JIC) that issued public information announcements and responded to media inquires from media outlets from around the globe.  He also worked in the JIC throughout the convention.  Chesnutt was tapped for the DNC because of his experience in strategic communications planning and crisis communications at the state and federal level.
