Get on the Bus!
(Purcelville, VA) September 8, 2008 - Virginia Regional Transit (VRT) has hired NCI Communications to conceive and produce a series of television commercials, a video annual report and web videos to promote VRT's services.
Virginia Regional Transit provides high quality, affordable community transportation to roughly 17% of Virginia, including metropolitan areas surrounding Washington, DC. VRT faced severe challenges during 2008, due to flat funding at the state and local level coupled with increased operational costs from the fluctuating price of fuel.
The goal of the project is to build company revenue by increasing ridership, expanding on-vehicle advertising revenues and encouraging financial support from local municipalities. The broader vision is to allow VRT to continue to grow and expand service – even during tough economic times – without raising the cost of bus fare.
"Even a small increase in bus fare can make transportation unaffordable for some of the people who need it the most,” said Mark McGregor, VRT's chief executive officer.
In addition to the commercials broadcast on local television, VRT also commissioned NCI to produce a video-based annual report – an innovative product that embraces new media technologies as a way to report to stake holders. The videos will be packaged with printed copies of the annual report and posted on the VRT web site.
