FEDERAL TRANSIT ADMINISTRATION / NATIONAL RURAL TRANSIT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (RTAP)
Keeping our transit systems safe and secure
SINCE TRANSIT SYSTEMS ARE FREQUENT TARGETS FOR TERRORIST ATTACK, transit safety and security is more important now than ever. National RTAP wanted to provide rural transit operators throughout the country with the latest training material on safety and security. RTAP understood that there was a wealth of information and wisdom on the topic, but needed a strategy for how to capture, communicate, and distribute it without breaking the bank.
NCI teamed up with Communiqué USA to form a project team that had industry-leading expertise in emergency management, transit safety and security, crisis communications and multimedia production. Together the team developed the course materials, had them peer-reviewed for accuracy and completeness then set out to document industry best practices by leaders in transit safety and emergency management.
The result was a multimedia training package called the RTAP Threat & Vulnerability Toolbox that can be delivered as a class by an instructor or taken independently with multimedia-driven instruction and exams. Short video vignettes deliver the wisdom of industry experts right to the desktop and a unique interactive feature allows people to create their own Safety and Security Preparedness Plan right off the DVD.
Next steps: NCI Communications and Communiqué have also teamed to produce two new interactive training packages for drivers and transit system board members. The new training modules will be released in spring of 2008.
